I’m probably not what everyone pictures when they think of a politician — and I’m perfectly okay with that.
I’m direct. I ask questions. I have a sense of humour. I’m not afraid of difficult conversations, and I believe people deserve an honest answer — even when it isn’t necessarily the answer they hoped for.
Some of my best conversations happen on a doorstep, at a community event, beside a hockey rink, or simply talking with a neighbour about what’s happening on their street. And when I get a little time to myself, you may find me out riding my motorcycle.

I’ve worked at Conestoga College since 2013 and have dedicated the past decade to serving as President of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 238, representing support staff. Through community engagement, I’ve negotiated, advocated, and faced challenges head-on, always striving to help people navigate difficult situations. I’ve even collaborated with those I strongly disagreed with to find effective solutions.
These experiences imparted one of the most important lessons I’ll carry to City Hall as a candidate for Ward 4 City Councillor:
Listen before you lead.
Effective leadership involves being prepared, asking questions, grasping various viewpoints, and having the courage to speak up when something isn’t right. My community involvement also includes broader advocacy and leadership roles, such as serving on the Friends of Waterloo Region Museum board.
Why I’m Running
Ward 4 is growing, and the choices we make today will shape the community our children and grandchildren will inherit.
I advocate for safer streets, thoughtful growth, infrastructure that keeps pace, protected parks and green spaces, greater housing affordability, and responsible use of our tax dollars. Just as importantly, I want to ensure that residents feel heard.
People don’t expect their councillor to solve every problem overnight; they do expect their councillor to listen, communicate, and be present. That’s the kind of councillor I aspire to be — visible in our neighbourhoods, accessible to residents, asking questions at City Hall, and keeping you informed about the decisions that impact our community.
I won’t pretend I’ll always have the answers, but I will listen, do my homework, speak up, and keep you updated on where things stand.
Ward 4 is my home. My family is growing up here, and I want to support building a community where the next generation can afford to stay, feel heard, and craft a future of their own, all aligned with my Vikki Poirier platform.
